Facebook recently released a new tool for indie artists to share their music in a much easier way. The social media giant announced their partnering with TuneCore and Distrokid and Cyber PR discusses what this means for indie artists and what the new partnership entails.

Facebook Indie Artist Program

This new partnership called the Indie Artist Program began back in June 2021. Facebook is using TuneCore and Distrokid to help artists get their music uploaded at no additional cost to them. Although Facebook already has contracts drafted with major labels, this new deal is created to help unaffiliated artists. This program covers Instagram Reels, Stories, and everywhere that Facebook uses music. Artists need to have an account with TuneCore or Distrokid in order to use this program. Whenever their music is played on Facebook or Instagram, artists will get royalties through these 3rd parties.

Distrokid

Founded in 2013, Distrokid is an online service that distributes 30-40% of all new music globally. There are over 2 million artists who use Distrokid’s services. Their services include: distribution, promotion, monetization, metadata customization, and storage. Distrokid charges a yearly fee of $19.99 with unlimited music upload.

TuneCore

Founded in 2005 and acquired by Believe in 2015, TuneCore is an online service for the DIY indie artist. They include services such as: distribution, publishing administration, and promotion. They distribute to over 150 digital partners, including Spotify, Apple Music, and TikTok. 100% of the earnings go to the artist. TuneCore charges an annual flat fee that typically ranges about $10 per single.
